Behind the Scenes at 'Good Morning America'
While Jane was in New York City she had the opportunity to stop by the Good Morning America show to discuss her book, Hope for Animals and Their World. As you can imagine this meant a pretty early morning for Jane! The show went on live around 8 a.m., and was broadcast to millions of homes around the country. Jane spoke about her hope for animals around the world, including China’s giant panda, which is featured in the book.

Dr. Jane's Keynote at the AZA Convention
After Seattle, it was on to Portland, where Jane spoke at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) conference. Jane spoke about the educational role of zoos and how Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots, an international youth service program, is a natural fit for zoos interested in expanding their youth outreach.
Jane Visits the Department of Interior
Last Friday Jane made a quick stop in Washington, DC to visit the U.S. Department of the Interior and give a lecture to department employees and other invited guests. Secretary Ken Salazar was a gracious host to Jane as she spoke to a packed auditorium of 700 people. In her remarks Jane said, "I am pleased to be speaking to so many people who have an impact on policy not just in Washington but around the world."
New York City - Day One
Last week, Dr. Goodall traveled to New York City to launch the publication of her newest book, Hope for Animals and Their World: How Endangered Species are Being Rescued from the Brink. The book features conservation success stories from around the world and introduces readers to the scientists and everyday people working hard to save animal species from extinction. Hope for Animals and Their World has already been named by Amazon.com as one of the must read titles for 2009.
Jane Meets Tarzan
Last month, Dr. Goodall traveled to Paris as part of a 3-day visit to the City of Light. While there she promoted the work of the Jane Goodall Institute-France and attended a number of events to highlight the work JGI is doing in Africa. She also had meetings with government officials to discuss ways in which France is making positive environmental choices. The American University of Paris Roots & Shoots group shared some of their amazing projects. Dr. Goodall even met her childhood hero, Tarzan! Take a look at the trip in pictures.
Jane Receives Minerva Award
On Tuesday, Jane took part in the one-of-a-kind California Women's Conference hosted by Maria Shriver. Over 25,000 women from around California - and the world - joined together for 2 days to celebrate and speak about the power of women to transform our world. From Madeleine Albright to Katie Couric to Sir Richard Branson, Jane joined an A-list line-up of conference speakers. Jane, along with 3 other pioneering women, was selected to receive the special Minerva Award this year.
Jane and the Chocolate Factory
Jane traveled to Seattle, Washington on September 12th to visit Theo Chocolate company, maker of chocolate bars that have Jane's "Good for All" seal of approval. While there, Jane not only spoke about her new book, Hope for Animals and Their World, but also got a behind-the-scenes view of Theo's chocolate-making process. Jane visits Pierce Brosnan
While Jane was in California last week to accept the Minerva Award at Maria Shriver's Women's Conference, she took a few moments to catch up with an old friend. Pierce Brosnan, the actor and environmentalist who needs no introduction, has been Jane's friend and a JGI supporter for many years.
